Creating and finalizing your rank order list(s) (ROL) for the specialties and programs to which you're applying is best approached as an iterative process. This process starts with processing your interview experiences and evaluating the programs where you interviewed. Then, continue refining your thinking about the individual programs where you interviewed, systematically comparing programs, and adjusting your ROL(s) as necessary to implement your smart ranking strategy.

Write a review for each program

Capture your impressions and reactions to your experiences at each program as soon as possible following each interview, while the information is fresh in your mind.

Compare and rate programs

Compare your impressions and reactions to your goals for residency training, then rate how each program is (not) meeting your desired training criteria and compare programs.

Refine and reorder your program list based on desireability

Evolve your program list to reflect how you rated programs in the RPE as well as your desirability for attending each program, to ultimately curate your rank order list.

Incorporate parallel plan strategies

If you're at risk of going unmatched or otherwise concerned about the contents of your ROL(s), consider and implement these parallel plan strategies in consultation with your advisor.
